Amama Mbabazi has finally thrown in the towel in the contest for the top positions of his party, after it became very clear to him that it was a mission impossible journey, and the hostility and threats had reached alarming level.
BUT could that be the end of the power struggles in the NRM party and does that mean that Museveni has the party fully under his grip now? THE ANSWER IS A BIG NOI!..,, Amama Mbabazi has been there from day 1 of the formation of the NRM party and he was responsible for drawing up most of the instruments of the formalisation of this party, and he personally recruited many party functionaries across the country, and he has had and still has very close ties with them, which include even financial facilitation and other form of support.
On Hon. Mbabazi’s running as independent: “He had to find way to ensure M7 runs as sole candidate. Friends are friends forever.” Signature 202 Resolution urging President Museveni to run as sole Candidate, NRM Parliamentary Caucus
NRM party is now in the exercise of receiving nominations for different party offices and , it is exactly during these primaries that the cracks in its ranks become more explicit, the difference in the past was that those who were rigged out of this exercise , and could not find another home ended up contesting as independents, leaning to NRM, and today these people have now found their chief independent and they will join him in big numbers in the month of October after the delegates conference,,Remember so far 1690 NRM people have picked forms for the only 400 or so seats of members of parliament, and in some constituencies like Ruhama in Ntungamo, over 18 people are contesting to replace Janet Museveni.
We have seen also how Yoweri Museveni is trying to sideline some members of the central executive committee, namely Kyaligonza,Kivejinja and others and trying to replace them with his family members. This will further cause more rebellion among senior ranks and ,we are likely to see a scenario in which, many senior NRM officials could desert Museveni, and they would join the TDA to call for the electoral reforms before any voting is held.”
In conclusion, there is no way Museveni and his remaining sycophants in the divided NRM,can even score 25% of the votes in a free and fair election, and the country is now sensitized and the people are not going to allow an election that will be held in an atmosphere that does not allow free and fair game.
