The Uganda People’s Defense Force have halted their operations meant to look for remnants of the royal guard militias commonly known as ‘Kirumira Mutima’

The army together with the police on Sunday stormed the palace of the Rwenzururu Omusinga, arresting him whereas over 40 of his royal guards were killed.

Lt. Col. Richard Kiwanuka, the UPDF 305 Brigade Commander said they have given the remnants of the fighters a week’s grace period to surrender peacefully.

“We have suspended our operations for one week and those who are still in hiding can come out and surrender,” Lt.Col Kiwanuka said.

“They can surrender to the RDC, LCs and Police at their own will and nobody will touch them.”

The police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi told this website that the mood in Kasese is now calm. He said however that the grace period will not be applicable to the commanders of the Kirumira Mutima militia.

“The RDC’s approach is that we can’t arrest the broader community but those ring readers who masterminded the killings remain suspects and we shall arrest them,” Kaweesi said.

He said the militia had many people recruited right from parish level to the sub counties, stressing that the ring leaders in the violence will still be arrested.

The UPDF’s 305 Brigade Commander added that they will resume the operations in the Rwenzori mountains at the elapse of the weeks grace period that started on November 30.

“We have suspended the operations for them to surrender, but if they don’t, we will have to move.”

Legislators from Kasese district have exchanged bitter words with government over the release of bodies of Rwenzururu Royal guards killed in the weekend clashes with the army.

About 46 Rwenzururu Royal guards were killed by the army and the police at Buhikira palace of King, Charles Wesley Mumbere in Kasese municipality on Sunday afternoon.

More than 140 royal guards and King Charles Wesley Mumbere were arrested up during the military offensive. Mumbere has since been charged with murder.

According to the army, the preparations to release the bodies of the dead Royal guards to their families for burial is underway.

However, locals are worried the the army has not yet even released the mere list of the deceased royal guards.

Members of Parliament from Kasese district and groups of human rights activists have vowed to sue President Museveni at the ICC over Kasese clashes underway.

Legislators include the leader of opposition Hon. Winnie Kiiza who doubles as the district woman MP, the Kasese municipality MP Hon. Centenary Robert, Bukonzo East MP Hon. Muhindo Harold, Busongora North MP Hon. William Nzoghu, Bukonzo West MP Hon. Katusabe Atkins and the Busongora South MP Hon. Jackson Mbaju.

The legislators say that Preparation are underway and a team of 14 lawyers has been hired to represent people who were arrested from the palace.

During the weekend, Police and the UPDF attacked Rwenzururu palace of Buhikira in Kasese municipality and between the clashes over 60 people lost their lives, the King Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere and other hundreds of his royal guards were arrested.

The Kampala City Lord mayor Elias Lukwago has said that President dream is to rule Uganda like a monarchy.

He added that Mueseveni is obsessed with power something that has made him blood thirst for terrorizing whoever stands in his way.

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon. Winne Kiiza has accused president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his son the Special force unit commander Brigadier Muhoozi Kainerugaba for giving orders to ‘massacre people in kasese.’

speaking during the pray for Kasese gathering held at the FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Winnie added that Muhoozi camped and stationed the command post at Margaretta hotel in Kasese.
